Taylor Urruela has suddenly appeared on the fitness modelling scene and everyone who stumbles across all say the same thing, besides the obvious tokens with regards to his good looks, ‘humble’, ‘modest’, ‘sweet’, ‘a gentleman’; however once they learn his story they are amazed that he has remained grounded and so positive. It is clear from the communications the Sinfully Sexy Girls (SS) and their followers have with Taylor (BTU), that he is going to become a major player on the fitness model scene but his presence will be felt much farther and he will soon become a household name for all his work for his Veteran charities.
Besides his modest and humble side the other thing that is clearly evident is that Taylor has a great sense of humour and is more than happy to go with the flow and have a laugh with us and the followers. After all there aren’t too many men who would happily join us on our compound for group marriages… in Utah obviously; So ladies please form an orderly queue as remaining spaces are limited 😉 SS x
So what is BTU’s story how did he end up in fitness modelling?
Having graduated from high school in 2004, he joined the US Army straight away and was shipped out to Georgia. From there he travelled to Germany spending a year training for combat. In 2005 he was deployed for the first time to Baghdad, where he stayed for a year. With only two days remaining before his deployment ended and at the age of 20 (and 2 weeks before his 21st birthday) the humvee he was travelling in with four other soldiers was hit by explosives. Unfortunately the bomb hit the side BTU was on, killing his commander and injuring all four other soldiers, including BTU. He then travelled to an Army Medical centre in Washington, DC. However this was just the start of what would be a very difficult time for Taylor. Two days later an artery blew and he lost two thirds of his blood, and had to endure 14 hours of surgery where his heart stopped twice. Thankfully they managed to save him but the result was his limb was in worse condition than before.
Taylor spent the following two years undergoing dozens more surgeries before they realised their attempts to regain some normalcy in his limb were not effective; thus resulting in Taylor and his doctors deciding to remove the limb altogether – something that Taylor admits was a relief at the time. Two further years of intense physical therapy (up to five hours a day, five days a week) followed, in order for Taylor to adapt to his new prosthetic. He retired from the army at 26 as a Sergeant and in what he describes as “impeccable shape and high hopes.” However he admits in his sole focus to become physically well in his rehabilitation, the other effects of what had happened while he had been at war and the tragic accident had been somewhat neglected. Your fans, our followers, and of course us, are all especially keen to get to know the person behind the pictures; and although we have seen glimpses of your personality on your Instagram page, it has only whet our interest more.
So let’s get started…
(SS) I know WE all know who you are but how would you introduce yourself to the readers who aren’t familiar with you?
(BTU) I am a combat wounded amputee, Infantry Sergeant, and I served 6 1/2 years in the US Army. I co-founded a veteran community sports non profit, I’m a personal performance trainer with a company called Tampa Sports Academy, model, and an aspiring author.
(SS) Describe yourself in five words?
(BTU) Loyal, Strong, Motivated, Caring, and Blessed.
(SS) What would you consider to be your best feature?
(BTU) On my body, my triceps. In general, I think my smile.
(SS) What is your number one priority?
(BTU) Being remembered long after I’m gone as someone who strived to help others always and as someone who fought every day to make something of himself.
(SS) What’s your greatest accomplishment, to date?
(BTU) Honoring and emulating those who have gone before me by serving in combat and being on the cover of novels. Being honored by my high school and school district as a member of their alumni hall of fame is up there as well.
(SS) What is the hardest decision you have ever made and what is the most valuable lesson you have learnt from this?
(BTU) Deciding to amputate my leg. The greatest lesson learned from it is to never second guess my gut instincts. It was the best decision I ever made.
(SS) Do you have a favourite inspirational/motivational quote/motto that you live by?
(BTU) “Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.” — James Dean
(SS) What is the best advice someone has ever given you?
(BTU) To always be me and to not be concerned or held back by the little things. To always do right by other people. My father is full of wisdom and is my main source of advice.
(SS) What did you want to be when you were younger?
(BTU) Either a cop, firefighter, soldier, professional athlete, or musician. I wanted to be a pro wrestler in my younger days, too lol.
(SS) Who is your hero or whom do you admire the most (Can be past or present, famous or someone you personally know) and why?
(BTU) Major David Gladney Taylor — He was the greatest man I’ve ever known and he gave everything for this country.
(SS) What is the bravest/craziest thing you ever done (in your eyes)?
(BTU) Simply fighting in combat. Every day could be your last and you’re very aware of it when you leave the gate to go on patrol.
(SS) Have you got any secret/hidden talents that people would be surprised to know?
(BTU) I don’t think so. I dabble in music, and though my music isn’t the kind most would like, I believe I can convey emotion well in my lyrics. I’m very proud of my lyrical writing.
(SS) What skill or ability do you wish you had and why?
(BTU) I wish I had the ability to play guitar and sing. It’s always been a true passion of mine. I’ve just never been any good at either.
(SS) Can you cook, if so what is your signature dish?
(BTU) I’d say spicy beef and rice, and I can make a mean spaghetti 😉
(SS) Did you always have the ambition to be fitness model?
(BTU) Ever since I discovered Alex Minsky.
(SS) What prompted you to begin training and why?
(BTU) I’ve trained my whole life. I was 130 pounds soaking wet my sophomore year in high school when I started really lifting weights and taking weightlifting classes. Since then it’s been an addiction. I absolutely love seeing the progress, both in physique and strength.
(SS) What keeps you motivated?
(BTU) Changes in physique and the desire to do all things in my life to the fullest extent.
(SS) Besides the gym how do you spend a typical day?
(BTU) Working on the computer for VETSports, managing social media accounts, and writing, and usually playing some sort of team sport. Also, I have been doing a bunch of rehearsals lately and once my performances are done, I will be back in acting classes on the regular.
(SS) What are your future ambitions?
(BTU) Write novels for a living, act in a movie or tv show, and to just be successful in all of my endeavors. Most importantly, to change people’s lives and perceptions.
(SS) If you could give advice to aspiring fitness model, what would it be?
(BTU) Always be cordial, respectful, humble and honest. Nobody likes a pompous asshole and if you are, it will surely catch up to you one day.
The Hypothetical questions:
(SS) If you could have any career besides what you do now (with no limitations of qualifications or locations) what would you choose and why?
(BTU) An actor and, hell why not, a professional wrestler hahaha.
(SS) If your house was on fire and you could grab three things what would you take?
(BTU) My Pups, my roommate/best friend, and my military memorabilia.
(SS) If you could be a fictional character or superhero, who would you be and why?
(BTU) Batman. He’s the best of the lot because he’s human, with no superpowers, and all he wants to do is help people. He is selfless.
(SS) What three things do you notice first/appreciate about in a woman?
(BTU) Eyes, Hair and Smile.
(SS) What is the funniest pickup line you have ever heard or has been used on you?
(BTU) This is a brand new one which was posted on one of my new pictures — “I would sooooo measure his inseam” hahaha.
(SS) If money was of no object, what would be your idea of a Perfect Date?
(BTU) A helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon with a picnic on one of the peaks, away from anyone else. Maybe a string quartet is up there with us!
(SS) What is the most romantic thing you have ever done?
(BTU) I’m a Valentine’s Day expert. Too many good ones to list and I can’t give out my secrets anyways. You never know, I may need to use them again one day! 😉
(SS) Have you ever been unfaithful or had someone be unfaithful to you?
(BTU) I have been, unfortunately, in my younger, dumber days and yes, my high school girlfriend cheated on me with every dude she came into contact with.
(BTU) Thank you guys so much for all your love and support. Ya’ll have been absolutely amazing and I look forward to us rising to the top together! 🙂
